Why Natural Stone Shipments Need Independent Inspection
Turkey is one of the world’s leading exporters of marble and travertine, shipped from quarries and processing plants across Anatolia to projects worldwide. Stone is unforgiving cargo: it is heavy, expensive to ship, effectively impossible to return, and quality is highly visual — tone, veining and surface finish can vary significantly even within one production run. A natural stone inspection in Turkey is the only practical way for an overseas buyer to confirm what is being crated before it sails.
What We Check at the Stone Yard
Dimensions and thickness
Tiles, slabs and pavers are measured with calibrated instruments against the order specification: length, width, calibrated thickness, squareness and bevel consistency. Thickness variation beyond tolerance causes serious problems at installation.
Surface quality and grading
Sampled pieces are examined for cracks, fissures, filling quality on travertine, polish consistency, chipped edges and corner damage. Colour and vein consistency is assessed across the sampled batch and against your approved control sample or photos, and dry-lay checks can be arranged for premium selections.
Quantity and crate condition
Crate counts and per-crate contents are reconciled with the packing list. Wooden crates are checked for sound construction, strapping, internal padding and correct marking — a weak crate turns minor transit shocks into broken stone.
Loading supervision
Because of the weight involved, loading practice matters more for stone than for almost any other cargo. Our inspector can supervise the loading, verify weight distribution and lashing, and record container and seal numbers with full photographic evidence.
